Pupils across Tameside Primary Academy enjoyed a special visit from Maddie Thompson, a British Paralympian basketball player. The visit gave children the chance to learn more about disabilities, perseverance and how a positive mindset can help them achieve their goals.
Thompson shared her experiences in sport and spoke about the importance of determination and self-belief in the face of challenges. After her presentation, pupils took part in a range of fun activities and basketball training drills, putting their energy and new skills into practice.
Cem Yalluri, Associate Principal at Tameside Primary Academy, said: “Visits from role models like Maddie Thompson offer our children something that lessons alone can’t always provide. Seeing someone who has overcome obstacles and reached the top of their sport gives pupils a real-life example of resilience, confidence and the power of positivity. Opportunities like this spark constructive conversations, encourages curiosity, and can even change the way children see themselves and their potential.”
By the end of the visit, pupils were buzzing with excitement, keen to continue practising basketball and carrying the lessons they had learned about perseverance and self-belief into their everyday lives.
