Academy Hosts Primary Concerts with City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra

Shireland CBSO Academy welcomed pupils from Lightwoods Primary Academy, Holyhead Primary Academy, Lyng Primary School, Holy Trinity C of E Primary School and Hanbury Primary School. They attended a series of special concerts performed by the Academy’s partner, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO).

The event offered pupils a rare chance to experience the scale and energy of a live orchestra up close.

Principal, David Green, said: “It was wonderful to see pupils engage with the concert with such enthusiasm, especially with an orchestra with such an established reputation and calibre as the CBSO.

“Opportunities like this allow students to see music brought to life in ways that lessons alone cannot, emphasising the value of music in education and our community partnerships. Experiences like these leave a lasting impression, inspiring a love of music and the creative arts that extends far beyond the classroom.

Shireland CBSO Academy combines academic excellence with creativity, offering a unique curriculum where music plays a central role. Students are encouraged to learn a musical instrument and are given regular opportunities to explore, perform and develop their creative talents.

The Academy’s longstanding partnership with the CBSO further enriches this provision. World-class musicians visit regularly to lead workshops, masterclasses, and live performances, providing students with unique insight into professional music and the wider creative arts. By integrating these experiences into daily learning, Shireland CBSO Academy ensures that music is both accessible and embedded, fostering creativity, confidence, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
