Year 9 students at Shireland CBSO Academy gained an insight into the world of banking and financial services during a careers session with a representative from the Bank of England.
Michael Marsh visited the Academy to share his professional experiences and provide students with an understanding of the range of roles and career opportunities available within the financial sector.
During the session, students explored the important role of the Bank of England as the UK’s central bank and its responsibility for supporting monetary and financial stability. They learned how the organisation helps maintain a safe and secure financial system, from setting interest rates and supporting reliable payment services to regulating major banks, building societies and insurance firms.
The visit formed part of the Academy’s wider careers programme, connecting students with employers and professionals from a range of industries. These experiences help students build their understanding of different career opportunities and make informed choices about their futures.
School Principal, David Green, said: “Giving our students opportunities to meet people from different professions is an important part of helping them understand the world beyond school. Hearing directly from someone working at an organisation such as the Bank of England can introduce students to careers they may not have previously considered and help them recognise how the skills they develop in the classroom can support their future ambitions.
“We want our students to leave us with the confidence to explore their interests, ask questions and make informed decisions about their next steps. Starting these conversations early helps young people understand the possibilities available to them and see that there are many different routes to achieving success.”
The session demonstrated the value of connecting classroom learning with the world of work, giving students the opportunity to hear first-hand from professionals and gain a clearer understanding of potential career pathways.
Shireland CBSO Academy continues to work with employers and organisations across a range of sectors to provide students with meaningful experiences that support their aspirations and prepare them for the future.
