Academy Non-Uniform Day Raises Over £200 for Birmingham Dogs Home

Staff and pupils at Tameside Primary Academy in Wednesbury raised over £200 through a non-uniform day in support of Birmingham Dogs Home, a charity dedicated to caring for and rehoming stray and abandoned dogs across the West Midlands.

As part of their fundraising initiative, the charity visited the school to meet reception pupils, bringing along their border collie, Dodger. The children learned about how their donation will support dogs in care and help owners in need of additional support. They also explored responsible dog ownership, animal behaviour, and how to safely interact with dogs in the community.

Birmingham Dogs Home operates two centres across in Birmingham and Wolverhampton, which rescues and supports around 2,000 dogs each year. Both centres cost the charity £6,000 to run every day.

Cem Yalluri, Associate Principal at Tameside Primary Academy, said: “At Tameside, community is at the heart of everything we do. This fundraising initiative not only supports such a wonderful cause, but it also teaches our children the importance of coming together to help others, whether animals or people. It gives them a real understanding of compassion, responsibility and respect.

“We are incredibly proud and grateful to our staff, pupils and families for coming together to support Birmingham Dogs Home, whose incredible work has left a lasting impression on everyone.”

The fundraising effort reflects the Academy’s commitment to fostering compassion, responsibility, and community spirit. The money raised will go directly towards supporting the care, rehabilitation, and rehoming of dogs, helping ensure every dog receives safety and the second chance at finding a loving home.

Birmingham Dogs Home has been part of the West Midlands community since 1892, providing 24-hour care, behavioural guidance, and advice to prevent abandonment and cruelty.
