La’Myiah from Thorns Collegiate Academy stepped into the spotlight last term after performing in ‘The 12 Dancing Princesses’ with the English Youth Ballet at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre.
Selected to perform alongside fellow young dancers in the nationally renowned production, La’Myiah spent months preparing for the role, gaining first-hand experience of the commitment and professionalism required within the performing arts industry.
Founded in 1998, the English Youth Ballet provides aspiring dancers aged 8 to 18 with the opportunity to take part in full-length classical ballet productions in professional theatre settings across the UK. The organisation is known for giving young performers the chance to develop their skills while experiencing the demands and rewards of working with a professional company.
For La’Myiah, the opportunity offered far more than a chance to perform on stage. It provided a unique insight into life beyond the classroom, challenging her to balance academic studies with an intensive rehearsal schedule while developing confidence, resilience and independence.
School Principal, Nikki Jones, said: “We were delighted to see La’Myiah take up this opportunity with such a prestigious organisation. Experiences like this are incredibly valuable for our students because they allow them to apply their skills and passions in a professional setting, where the expectations are very different from the classroom.
“La’Myiah has shown exceptional commitment throughout, and we are very proud of her and the way she has represented the Academy.”
The Academy congratulated La’Myiah on her achievement and said it looked forward to seeing her future progress in dance.
