Mr John Ashton is the Associate Principal at Lightwoods Primary Academy, bringing a wealth of experience and expertise in teaching, leadership, and curriculum development.

After completing both his undergraduate and master’s degrees at the University of Leicester, John went on to achieve his Postgraduate Diploma in Education at the University of Birmingham. His strong academic background underpins his commitment to high-quality teaching and learning.

Before joining Lightwoods Primary Academy, John held a senior leadership position in a Birmingham school, where his responsibilities included leading English and overseeing Special Educational Needs (SEN) provision. His depth of knowledge in English education provided him with the opportunity to review and audit practice across other schools, helping to raise standards and share effective strategies.

Prior to this, John worked in Dudley as an English Lead and local authority moderator.

Outside of his professional life, John enjoys playing hockey and cricket, spending time with his family, reading, and travelling.
