Trust Schools Celebrate Recent GCSE and A Level Results

GCSE and A Level students were welcomed back to schools in August to celebrate their well-earned achievements after what can only be described as a challenging and disruptive couple of years for education.

Sitting formal exams for the first time since the pandemic, students displayed relieved yet smiling faces as they opened their envelopes.

Shireland Collegiate Academy

Shireland Collegiate Academy received the best results in the school’s history this year for GCSEs and produced another strong set of A Level and BTEC results for their Sixth Form.

In a year where results were expected to start to return to 2019 levels, Shireland exceeded these results, including those achieved in 2021.

74% of GCSE entries were awarded grades 9-4, of which 23% of these entries were awarded the top grades 9-7, including a handful of students who were awarded grade 9’s across all subjects.

Students who achieved a standard pass in both Maths and English also saw an increase by ten percentage points compared to 2021, with strong pass rates rising by eight percentage points.

As a result, some exceptional individual performances were delivered, with Shireland Collegiate Academy expecting its progress figure to place them in a very strong position both locally and nationally.

Principal David Irish said: “We are so proud of our students who have achieved our best ever results at Shireland Collegiate Academy. A fabulous effort by our students and I want to thank our staff for all their hard work over what has been a difficult two years. We are delighted!”

Thorns Collegiate Academy

Students at Thorns Collegiate Academy celebrated excellent GCSE results. Over 90% of students having achieved GCSEs in Maths and English with over 60% of these GCSE entries achieving grade 5 or higher.

BTEC students also performed exceptionally well in their qualifications, with 24 students being awarded the top grade – Distinction*.

Thorns celebrates its highest attainment in public examinations since the introduction of the new-style GCSE and joining Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust.

Principal Manny Kelay said: “Achieving GCSEs against the background of the last two years has been particularly challenging. We are extremely proud of our young people, who made every moment count, achieving results which reflect their hard work. We wish them well in their futures.”
