Farm on Wheels brings the countryside to Wednesfield Technology Primary

Wednesfield Technology Primary welcomed Farm on Wheels, who rolled into school with a host of friendly animals for pupils to meet. Soft lambs, inquisitive chickens and a gentle donkey were among the animals that delighted children, who were able to stroke, feed and handle them under careful supervision.

The visit offered more than just a fun day. Pupils learned about animal care and observed natural behaviours, developing empathy and responsibility along the way. The hands-on experience brought classroom learning to life, helping children understand the connection between farming and the wider natural world.

School Principal, Claire Keeler, said: “What makes visits like this so valuable is seeing our children grow in confidence when they can explore and learn for themselves. They notice details, show care and thoughtfulness, and ask questions that you don’t usually hear in the classroom. It’s those kinds of experiences that carry through into other parts of their learning.”

Farm on Wheels is a mobile farm that visits schools, nurseries, care centres and community events, offering interactions with a variety of animals suitable for all ages and abilities. Spring and summer visits bring the added excitement of meeting baby lambs, calves and other young animals, while activities range from walking goats and rabbits on leads to handling a selection of birds and small pets.

The visit left pupils with lasting memories and a renewed appreciation for the natural world, reinforcing the Academy’s commitment to learning experiences that are practical, engaging and meaningful.
