Pupils from Newfield Park Primary Academy celebrated success at the annual Dudley Children’s Maths Championships, with the Academy’s Year 5/6 team securing an impressive third place finish.
The competition brought together primary schools from across Dudley for a series of mathematical challenges, including problem-solving activities, logic puzzles and Countdown-style number rounds designed to test pupils’ reasoning, teamwork and numerical skills.
Newfield Park’s teams performed strongly throughout the event, demonstrating confidence, resilience and excellent mathematical thinking as they worked collaboratively to tackle a range of challenges. The Year 3/4 team also achieved a fantastic result, narrowly missing out on a third-place finish by just three points.
Organised by education consultant Helen Owens, the annual Dudley Children’s Maths Championships provides pupils across the borough with the opportunity to compete and apply their mathematical knowledge in an engaging and fast-paced tournament.
School Principal, Steve Payne, commented: “We were incredibly proud of all of our pupils who took part in the Dudley Children’s Maths Championships. They showed fantastic teamwork, resilience and a real enthusiasm for tackling challenges together. Opportunities like this are so valuable because they allow children to take the skills they develop in lessons and apply them in a different setting, building confidence and helping them to see the enjoyment and creativity that comes with mathematics.
“Our pupils represented Newfield Park brilliantly and their achievements are a credit to the hard work and positive attitude they show every day.”
The success reflects Newfield Park’s commitment to providing pupils with opportunities to develop their skills beyond the classroom, encouraging confidence, curiosity and a love of learning.
